Added a new short films section. Watch out for the exclamation mark against those films with potentially upsetting content.
A new ecard for easter: Legend Of The Golden Egg Warrior.
I've added a new hearts valentine's day video ecard this evening.
Sorry if you've been seeing error messages on the site, or have been finding that some ecards haven't worked when recipients have viewed them. I made a couple of mistakes with coding behind the scenes - fixed now.
I've added 2 new ecards which let you add your own words and make 3d clouds of words.
A new christmas snow text ecard - you can enter your own text into the snowy message.
Updates galore: new ecard categories added include creatures (good for kids), congratulations, get well soon, good luck, I Love You (previously these were in the Valentine's Day category), new home, new job and anniversary.
I've also revised the menu structure along the top of the page, splitting into 2 main sections of "expressions and occasions
Plus the search functionality has been improved.
I've added a new page to the site this evening: windows keyboard shortcuts
I've added a new page of songs for kids and children.
I've added 28 new video ecards to the site this evening, 26 of which have gone into a new "films and musicals category. However, my favourite of the lot is the Where the Hell is Matt 2012 video, which to me is a hopeful way of showing that if humanity can look for what we have in common, and not what makes us different, then we might be okay in the long run!
For those of you who are members, you can now search your sent ecards - handy when checking which ecards you have sent, and whether or not they have been read.
Twelve new photos added, from Manchester and Dunham Massey, near Altrincham, near Manchester.body
Here are 18 new video ecards. If you like The Beatles, you might like some of the additions.
Here are 32 new photos added to the site, mainly from the Middlewich Roman Festival.
A new birthday ecard: Birthday Voices. Move your mouse over the men to hear them wish you happy birthday. Keep moving your mouse over to change the voice.
Ever wondered which ecards are popular today, or yesterday, or any day for the last month? Well, wonder no more, now you can see via Jimpix Ecard Stats!
Also, get your June Themed Wallpaper from Smashing Magazine.
46 new photos added this evening, mainly from the snow we had in the UK in December 2010.
Apologies if you've been having problems using the site this evening. I broke something, and it took a while to work out how to undo it!
New: View all non-photo ecards in a big long list. You can also see them all with images instead if you prefer. The new big long list shows ecard details, including send / view stats and last-sent date.
I've added four new mother's day photo ecards this evening.
After removing the option to send future-dated cards, you can now send them again. However, if you find any bugs in the process, please let me know. Thanks. Oh, and happy 2011!
Just added some new photos from London - Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Natural History Museum.
You can now sign up and become a member of the site, which will allow you to track sent / received ecards, and various other such bits and pieces.
While I'm here, I thought the MediaLens analysis of Andrew Marr's interview with Tony Blair was most enlightening.
Plus, I also found William Blum's latest article very interesting.
You can now set your own send-date when you send your ecards. A few people have asked for this facility - the first in 2006 - so it's finally here. If you have any issues with it, let me know.
Here is a list of recent updates:
Feb 27th 2010:
Added about 100 old photos, that I took with an old SLR camera many moons ago. I thought I had deleted them all, but found them on a backup CD.
Thumbnails or full gallery.
Feb 21st 2010:
Added a load of new photo ecards today. Most taken on a snowy bike ride, the rest taken from ten year old photos.
Thumbnails: set 1, set 2, set 3. Or full gallery views: set 1, set 2 and set 3.
Feb 15th 2010:
Added nine new ecards.
I've added 5 new birthday ecards today. All stolen from YouTube.
No site updates for over a month.
I've added a new section this evening which allows you to send video ecards. I split the new content into 3 sections: comedy, entertainment and inspirational. I also added some video poems into the poetry category, and one into the valentines section.
Or you can always view a list of all the new additions.
My favourites are Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen!, Where the Hell is Matt? (could make me cry!) and The Story of Stuff. Then again, they're all favourites, otherwise they wouldn't be on the site.
If you have any videos you love that you'd like to see on the list, please get in touch and send me your suggestions. I'll then be extremely biased and work out whether or not to include them on the site!!! If I can work out how to do it, I'll add the option for you to send a jimpix ecard with any video you like included in it, since all video sites allow you to ember their videos on other sites.
Send-to-multiple-recipients is now working again. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
I have removed the send-to-multiple-recipients option as users have reported some technical problems with it. I am really sorry if this has affected you. Hopefully I will be able to reinstate it once I have fixed the problem.
On Saturday December 5th I added a new gruesome christmas ecard, with a bit of inspiration from Monty Python.
Today (Sunday December 6th) I've added a new Christmas ecard, called Christmas Rainbows, and a new Birthday ecard called Birthday Letter Cloud.
Plus, I revamped some previous designs which were dull and dowdy, as I worked out how to add gradient colours and pictures. First up is Christmas Text Message followed by Text Explosion. And revamped Christmas Letter Storm...
This evening, I have added 9 new ecards. Most of them are a variation on a theme - move the mouse around, and stuff happens. Sorry for the lack of imagination. Most of them are new christmas ecards.
1. new job, using funny vector image men.
2. birthday men, using more vector men.
3. christmas text message - explosive text messaging - you can change some of the text on this one
4. christmas scroller - third time I've used this one, sorry for the repetition
5. santa trail
6. santa splatter
7. christmas trail
8. text explosion - a "make your own" ecard
8. christmas letter storm
Numbers 1 to 6 have been spruced up by the addition of glossy icons / vector art.
In time for potential Christmas busyness, you can now send ecards to multiple recipients. When you go to send an ecard, you will see there are little boxes numbered 1 to 10. Click on the relevant number, and fill in the recipient's name and email.
You can send an ecard up to 10 people.
Yesterday I added the option that allows you to reply to an ecard. Look out for the link on outgoing emails, and also on the actual ecard on the site, once you're viewing it.
And I added some new photos this evening, 5 doodles, and 4 from an October visit to Cambridge.
Favourite photo: long legs
Favourite doodle: Fishing
After discovering the amazing wonderfl.net a few days ago, I have added some new ecards. Some are via code from Wonderfl, and others are new poem ecards, by Philip Larkin, Elinor Wylie and John Betjeman.
Plus the "Enter Your Own Words section has had a facelift, where the old annoying cards which made you split your message across 3 fields have changed - you can now enter your text into one field, and use line breaks, which makes it a bit more user friendly.
The poem ecards have had a facelift. Lots of colour, bouncing text, but the same poems. Maybe their glossy make over will make people want to send them more? I have no idea.
Plus a new birthday ecard: random spiky dude
Based on some ideas provided by visitors using the feedback form on the site, I've been working on a lot of changes on the site. Plus I added a few ideas of my own...
Here be an essay:
1. New drop-down navigation added, making it easier to get to the main parts of the site more quickly
2. Thanks to a suggestion from a visitor, I've added 2 new "recent ecards" pages - new normal ecards, and new photo ecards. Now you will be able to see what's new, without hunting to see if you can work out what has been added since the last time you visited.
3. I've added 9 new ecards. All based on flash code developed by smart and talented designers, like Grégoire Divaret, Uncontrol, and Pierluigi Pesenti.
4. Got rid of a load of old useless categories, and made a new general purpose category called "no words" - so they can be used for any old thing. A bit like a "blank for your own message" paper card.
5. Deleted lots of old, useless ecards, and updated all the rest, so they're bigger and bolder. They're all now mostly much bigger (generally 800*600 pixels, instead of their old small size).
6. Made all of the preview images a lot bigger, so you get a much better idea about what the ecards look like without having to click on them to view the real thing.
7. Where applicable, each ecard now has a box underneath it, with links to more info about the person who designed it, and instructions on how to use it. Here's an example.
8. .... And finally, thanks to a great bit of feedback, the ecards all now have "real" names, so you now have, for example, "Revolving Birthday Tube" instead of the cryptic "levCATwist_b"!
Just added 2 new ecards:
birthday scroller and make-your-own-scroller, both based on some open-source code found on 25lines.com. This scrolling text was... done by someone called Ben Morrison, who doesn't seem to have a website of his own, so I can't credit him with a link.
Click into the scrolling text and:
Press ESC to change colours
Press delete on your keyboard to delete the text, and write your own
Move your mouse around to change the view - it's a bit 3d-ish
On the make-your-own version, you can type in your own text so that the recipient can see what you enter. The birthday design is hard-coded.
You need to have the latest Flash Player (version 10) though, to get these new ecards to work.
And I added another new one yesterday.
It's a make your own one. Not sure about the funny little man, but anyway, the hillside looked empty without so...mething there.
Click anywhere in the dark box for a new text effect.
I've added some new photos this evening.
Last week (Monday September 7th) I added a new category of ecards, called Enter your own message. You can now make up your own ecard message, within the body of the flash ecard, instead of rely on my silly messages.
My daughter made two of them: eyes, and new house.
Finally, this site is suffering from lack-of-traffic blues. If you're a marketing specialist, web search engine optimisation / SEO guru, and have any ideas to help increase the reach of jimpix ecards, please get in touch - any advice much appreciated. Thank you!
But no, really - finally: an interesting read.
From The Upper Deck - a photoblog from someone who takes photos from the upper deck of London busses. Some of the photos are really incredible, considering they're not at all staged, and are taken as the bus passes by. Reminds me of The Express Train - photos from the New York Subway
Welcome to the new version of jimpix. The site has been running since 1999, so this is sort of like a 10 year anniversary edition.
I had previously deleted all of the photos from the site. This was a rash act, so thanks to some people who got in touch to ask where they went, I've been through all of my old digital photos, and put them back again. There aren't as many as before, but hopefully the lack of quantity is made up for by not having as many pretty weak photos as used to be there.
