bus graveyard

I was out for a walk (pushing youngest daughter in buggy to let her have a sleep) and walked past a yard where broken old buses were stored.

It could've been the sun making everything look photogenic, but when I saw these junked old lumps of metal the sheer bulk of their uselessness hit me.

Maybe it's because buses are usually associated with hustle and bustle. Instead all of the hope they stood for, the destinations, the gaily painted adverts of days out, the speed and the unvisited destinations, were reduced to static heaps of junk.

It also struck me that the same fate awaits all of the other proud automobiles which stream over our roads with such a daily force of movement and purpose. Either they will be replaced by newer, shinier models, or at some point, petrol will run dry and all of the razmatazz surrounding this model or that, their power and torque and in car entertainment and accelleration will be nothing and will meet the same fate as these old buses.
