We went for a walk up Shutlingsloe in the Peak District. It is a striking hill, on the Western Edge of the Peak District, and is also known as the "Mattahorn" of Cheshire, due to the fact that when viewed from certain angles, it has a distinct peak. We parked at the Trentabank Car Park, located a few miles from Macclesfield. This gallery also contains a couple of photos from Macclesfield (the photos of the steps).

Title: Summit Words
Notes: At the top of Shutlingsloe is a metal disc set in some rock, on which someone has engraved the names of some of the hills one can see from the summit. Around the edge of the disc are engraved the following words: "In memory of Arthur Smith, a doughty fighter for footpaths and access to mountains. Erected by the Peak and Northern Footpaths Society and the Ramblers Assocn."

Notes: For the most part, the floor below the conifers in Macclesfield Forest are littered with orange coloured pine needles and not much else, at first sight. On having a hunt around, I saw some mushrooms.

Notes: This was the view heading up Shutlingsloe. Part of the walk takes you across a lovely stretch of moorland, and in the distance looms Shutlingsloe. If you've read "Lord of the Rings" then we thought this looked like a good "Weathertop"...
